Wheelchairs on the water

Following the success of our campaign for a Wheelyboat, we are now seeking funding to further extend the watersports activities we are able to offer people with disabilities including mobility issues and special educational needs. To achieve this we are looking to raise funds for:

  • Onit Ability Boards – specially adapted paddleboards for Wheelchair users that can be paddled independently or by a paddling partner. Stand Up Paddle boarding is the fastest growing watersport globally and LWC have a thriving Stand Up Paddle Board club that meet weekly. Onit boards would enable people with mobility issues to take part in the sport and join in with the group’s activities.
  • Hoist – to assist LWC staff to help people with disabilities into boats. Currently staff have to carry people into boats, a hoist would make these transitions more comfortable, safer and promote dignity.
  • Delivery of sessions for disabled groups and individuals – in order to promote the extended activities on offer for people with disabilities, we would like to offer free sessions for groups and individuals to try out the centre.
