Funded Sailing Places for Local Secondary Schools

Liverpool Watersports Centre has been granted funding from the 1851 Trust to provide sailing opportunities for local secondary school students. These fully funded places are part of the 1851 Trusts’ Rebel Crew sailing programme, a sailing initiative inspired and funded by Ineos Team UK and its leader Sir Ben Ainslie.

The programme will provide sailing experience for students in Years 7-9.  The main eligibility criteria are that schools must be within 15 miles of the centre (L3 4DG) and the funding is aimed at schools with a high percentage of students receiving free school meals.

The initiative will allow students to learn the basics of sailing (including water safety), gain confidence in the water, and earn a certificate – all while working together with their peers and making use of opportunities for personal development.

Other benefits for schools include access to a national school’s network and further funding, as well as seeing enhanced confidence, teamwork, behaviour and improvements in attitudes to learning. Rebel Crew follow and support OFSTED behaviour, attitude and personal development criteria.

All safety equipment will be provided, and the programme will be delivered by experienced instructors, who work to enhance confidence and teamwork in the young people taking part.

Liverpool Watersports Centre was selected by the 1851 Trust to run this programme because of its ability to deliver a fantastic experience for students.

The initiative will be running from the 2020 Summer Term up until 2020 October half term.
